Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 13 Biggest Unanswered Questions

8. Was Kylo Ren Telling The Truth About Rey's Parents?

The Question: Kylo Ren informs Rey of the upsetting truth that her parents were nothing more than junker fiends who sold her off and are presumably rotting in the sands of Jakku somewhere.

Was Kylo telling the truth, or did he spin Rey a lie in order to weaken her resolve and convince her to join him?

The Likely Answer: Though some fans are desperate for Rey to be pointlessly related to a major character in the Star Wars universe, it seems much more probable that he's telling the truth.

Considering that so much of The Last Jedi saw Rian Johnson deliberately upending expectations and basically subverting a lot of the potential cliches the story could've fallen into, it wouldn't make much sense for Episode IX to betray this.

Rey's parents are nobodies, and that's so much more satisfying and interesting than some unnecessary fan service familial link. Does the franchise not have enough of that as it is?
