It might be unconventional for MCU villains to avoid dying straight away, but Hela might have another role to play...

Why?

For Thor to be found floating through space by the Guardians Of The Galaxy in Infinity War, he has to take a pretty big beating at the climax of Thor: Ragnarok (since he's seen wearing his gladiator outfit from Sakaar). And for that to be the case, the central conflict of the film can't be fully resolved when the credits roll.

There is a possibility that it's an appearance by Thanos that makes that happen, but Loki having the Tesseract in Infinity War confuses that too much, and it makes far more sense that Hela wins, Thor is cast out unconscious and Asgard remains fallen.

And even better, if she survives maybe we will get to see her become the object of Thanos' romantic obsession in place of Death from the comics arc.
