10 Beloved Video Game Moments That Would Be Too Offensive In 2017
5. Collectible 'Romance Cards' In The Witcher
At the time: Remember a time when you could go just one day without an online controversy or someone being 'offended'?
Me neither, but it was definitely before 2016. Back in 2007, CD Projekt RED included a game mechanic centred around 'Romance Cards'; the notion that Geralt would receive a collectible card for any female he slept with. Like some sort of 'calling card' for each individual person, it gave you a neat memento of every last relationship you could embark on - which in Geralt's case, was a lot.
Now: There's a good reason CD Projekt RED ditched the idea of these romance cards (also called 'sexcards') in both Witcher sequels: They quite literally objectify women, treating any sexual female interaction like the amassing of a card collection.
Witcher 2 and 3 certainly carried forward the explicit nudity featured in the original, but when it came to coming away from any interaction with a bizarrely awkward, half-naked 'collector's item'', that got kicked to the curb.
