5. Moms Are Tough (XIII)
Where do you begin with Final Fantasy XIII? From the linearity to the bland protagonist, there's plenty to criticise, including moments that are simply painful to sit through. Perhaps it's best to begin with the beginning, as despite the annoyance that players have to suffer through almost every time Hope opens his mouth to complain or Vanille opens her mouth to say anything at all, there is one scene that has ascended to meme level as a result of its awfulness. Said scene is part of the game's opening, as male quasi-lead Snow leads a small resistance force against a mass deportation of citizens from the floating world of Cocoon. His group grows to include a woman by the name of Nora, whose lines seem to consist solely of the phrase 'Moms are tough' over and over. Though her lines are the result of bad translation (which there's no excuse for these days), the character's ironic death (not so tough after all!) is a cause for celebration purely as players no longer have to listen to any more of her ridiculous boasts.
