10 Horror Video Games That Desperately Need Sequels
2. Cold Fear
Following the Resident Evil 4 boom of over-shoulder firing and occasional melee attacks, we saw a great many games attempt to copy it. One that did it far better than most is Cold Fear, actually letting you switch up between fixed perspectives and the up-close aiming mode that's now Resi's bread and butter, pleasing fans of old and new simultaneously. We've seen isolation by way of far-away space station or remote village, but putting you out in the middle of the ocean surrounded by nothing but the icy depths is a fear that's close to home for many of us when making trips across any large bodies of water. With constantly-shifting physics and weight distribution for character Tom Hansen that ebbed and flowed with the way the ship lurched through the waves, it made for some pretty on-edge fights against multiple opponents when it came to lining up shots and items. Developer Darkworks also did the Last of Us-lite I Am Alive - a title that had the survivalist aspect down-pat, but completely fell apart when it came to animation and story. As Ubisoft published Cold Fear, here's to them bringing it back amongst their A-game lineup of Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell some day.
