10 Iconic Video Game Franchises That Can't Catch A Break

8. Assassin's Creed

The Assassins Creed franchise has been going for thirteen years now and has spun itself into a multi-media franchise that includes spin-off games, books, comics and even a (pretty bad) film! While the main series games have actually sold pretty well throughout the series' lifetime, the online community seems insistent on attacking the more recent games.

This is somewhat understandable after quite a few buggy releases, most notably 2014's Assassin's Creed: Unity. Pair this with the fact that the games aren't too focused on the assassin side of things anymore and instead aim to be a more generic 3D open world adventure, and you have a fan base that are very vocal about their complaints.

While it is clear the franchise has taken a different direction, the games themselves are actually pretty good. Not only is the gameplay really fun, especially the combat, but the open worlds are really impressive and surprisingly accurate to their historical setting. They're filled to the brim with things to do, and each game has a unique setting that sets it apart from the previous instalment. Despite this, Assassins Creed still seems to have a somewhat tarnished reputation.

Maybe if Ubisoft stopped trying to sell so many different versions of the game, fans might start to look at the series in a better light.
