Bethesda's time with Fallout has always been a bit turbulent, with many old school fans of the series not liking Fallout 3 as much as its predecessors. But new players loved the game and New Vegas was published shortly after, which is considered to be one of the best entries in the franchise.

Waiting five years for the next instalment however, fans weren't exactly impressed with Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 is by no means a bad game. It has really responsive gun play, weapon and armour customisation has never been better and your Mr. Handy can even say your real life name. But as a Fallout game? It was lacking. Dialogue had been simplified to four basic answers to everything, player choice was extremely limited and the world felt incredibly small. While it wasn't a franchise killer, it certainly put the game series on thin ice.

Then Fallout 76 released just three years later. And that was more of a franchise killer. What else can be said than has already been said a million times already over the past few years? Simply put it was a huge disappointment and so poorly received that not only is Fallout's reputation ruined, but Bethesda's too. Even their attempts to solve the problems with free expansions seems to be doing nothing.

It really sucks because the world of Fallout really is one of the coolest settings seen in a video game. And we may never get a good entry again.
