10 Major Problems With 2018's Biggest Video Games

8. The Last Of Us 2 Elongates A Story That Has Nowhere To Go

Contentious, sure, but even Naughty Dog's own Neil Druckmann had to speak out after the announcement of TLoU 2 with the words "Trust us", as a way of allaying features the sequel immediately felt tacked on.

Yes, there's ground to be explored in regards to the idea that Ellie continues to question how much of Joel's Firefly story was true - or what the world around her will do when they find out she IS the cure to the zombie apocalypse - but isn't all of this besides the point? The entirety of The Last of Us was set up to provoke the question: How far would you go, to save someone you love?

Druckmann himself has posited different readings as to how the game is also a comment on feminism and independence, being Ellie grows to know that she could survive without Joel at the end, but regardless, the very nature of posing those questions and cutting to black ended the project in the best way possible.

Dredging up more motivations to keep going almost feels like there's nothing worthwhile to excavate, and when Uncharted 4's story - alongside still being enjoyable enough - had to fall back on "Actually, there was a secret brother we never addressed before", it's not the most reassuring state of affairs going into next year.
