It really does make for grim reading diving into all the failed projects that came about during LucasArts' twilight, especially since the years between 2006 and 2013 saw very little emerge from the studio.

They were genuine pathfinders in the industry, crafting seminal titles in the Jedi Knight series and publishing dozens more in Battlefront and Republic Commando. Above all others, Bioware's Knights of the Old Republic probably stands the tallest, but again, fans have been left waiting over a decade for the elusive third entry in that very series.

Why wasn't it made?

Well, no one at LucasArts actually seems to know, weirdly enough. The game apparently reached the early stages of pre-development, but nothing came of it bar some brainstorming sessions and a few convincing pieces of concept art.

That's without mentioning the veritable cemetery of failed projects the company failed to get off the ground either. Among the most tragic of these rests Pandemic's third Battlefront title (the studio soon folded after a switch to Middle-earth in Lord of the Rings: Conquest), a sequel to 2005's Republic Commando and, of course, Star Wars: 1313.

This really is the darkest timeline, isn't it?
