10 Most Infuriating Unresolved Video Game Cliffhangers

1. Half-Life 2: Episode 2

Probably one of the most stunning cliffhanger scenes in gaming - and one that's left fans frustrated for many, many years - is the final scene of Half-Life 2: Episode 2.

Lovable old Eli Vance is brutally killed by a Combine Advisor, who has just gained Eli's knowledge about resistance finding the fabled research vessel Borealis, which could give them the upper hand in the fight. The game ends with Alyx cradling her dead father, and the promise of epic things to come. The game was supposed to come to an end with Episode 3, but nearly a decade later Valve have shown little interest in revisiting Half-Life.

They've been preoccupied with Left 4 Dead and other games of course, but the lack of communication over the status of Half-Life 3 has driven fans crazy.

The game seems near closer to development than it did in 2007, and unless something drastic changes, it will remain that way for a while to come.
