10 Most Shocking Video Game Plot Twists Of 2018
4. Playing As John Marston - Red Dead Redemption 2
Those who played through 2010’s Red Dead Redemption will know that the series is all about revenge being payed post-mortem. Though audiences have twice seen John Marston attempt to settle down and leave his criminal activities in the past, there would be no ‘redemption’ in Red Dead Redemption 2 if certain scores were left unsettled.
Rockstar’s first dusty midwestern outing shocked audiences when, toward the end of the campaign, they actually got to see Marston transition into a family man and abandon his criminal past. All was seemingly undone when a corrupt official ended his life, but justice was subsequently served by his son, Jack.
Much the same occurred for Arthur Morgan, the protagonist of the game’s sequel (which is actually a prequel). No matter the outcome, Morgan meets his end, though he was able to ensure a better life for John before he bit the dust. All was made right by the end, of course, as the events of the original Red Dead game redeemed poor Arthur and his ill-fated efforts.
Stepping into the spurs of John Marston for the game’s lengthy final act was certainly a surprise, but, given the last game’s outcome, it wasn’t exactly unpredictable.
