10 Things Open-World Games Need To STOP DOING

5. Those TERRIBLE Menus

In most games, menus are just a means of getting from a loading screen to the action. Pick a game, maybe adjust a setting or two and go. But, in open-world games, players will find themselves switching in and out of menus constantly. Checking the map, sorting through items, adjusting perks - so much time is dedicated to taking breaks from the action to making sure things are in order.

So it is amazing how often open-world games come bundled in with the most annoying menus imaginable.

It can be so frustrating for players to have to endlessly scroll through every single item they've picked up or give their thumbs a workout by picking through the different filters or categories.

What's more, overly-complicated menus can be a proper pain to jump in and out of. Not playing a game for a number of days and then jumping in with the most complicated menu possible is disorientating and frustrating to have to jump back into.

And then there are virtual mouse navigated menus, a polarising mechanic that feels like an attempt to bring PC gaming onto consoles.
