10 Things Ubisoft Wants You To Forget

8. Everything To Do With Splinter Cell

If you're just now getting into gaming, you probably won't have any idea how important the Splinter Cell brand was in building Ubisoft up as one of the biggest third-party publishers. That's their fault however, as since the dawn of the decade they've essentially done their best to make players forget the series existed at all.

Maybe it's not that extreme, but the publisher has done an impeccable job at tanking whatever goodwill fans of the stealth series had left. Attempting to reinvent the franchise for a wider mainstream audience with Conviction, Ubisoft's new action-oriented approach permanently damaged the brand once the game hit shelves.

In response, attempting to blend this new focus with the classic gameplay which made the series so beloved in the first place, Blacklist attempted to be a one-size-fits-all package that allowed players to tackle missions as stealthily or as loudly as they wanted. Unfortunately, Ubi made one vital mistake: replacing the longtime voice of Sam Fisher, Michael Ironside.

The game was great, but to many fans that decision was essentially Ubisoft finally accepting that the series had cut all ties to whatever it used to be, with the company putting Fisher's stealthy exploits on hiatus shortly after, and making nary a mention to them ever since.
