10 Things Ubisoft Wants You To Forget
5. Far Cry 5 Being Called A "White Genocide Simulator"
When Far Cry was announced, perhaps unsurprisingly considering it was the first time the first-person shooter had been set on American soil, casting the enemies as Christians no less, it quickly entered the political spotlight.
Some took more offence to the setting and premise than others though, with one incendiary take proclaiming that the title was nothing more than a "white genocide simulator". That sentiment didn't gain too much of a following, but it gained enough attention for it to go viral online with everyone across the political spectrum discussing the game in tandem with the phrase "white genocide".
Obviously that's not a label that Far Cry 5 deserves, considering the actual content of the game itself - it's far more interested in letting players cause wacky mayhem with a bear called Cheeseburger than broaching any serious topics - but it was something that stuck to the game in the months following the sequel's reveal.
