10 Things Ubisoft Wants You To Forget

4. Constant Visual Downgrades

In the last generation, Ubisoft always made games that looked pretty decent, but they weren't exactly the most beautiful titles around. With the introduction of the PS4 and Xbox One though, that was all set to change, and the trailers for their new projects all looked mind-blowing from a visual perspective.

Most notably was the original Watch Dogs, which in hindsight was never going to live up to its pre-release trailers. A next-gen game announced before the systems themselves had been officially unveiled, Ubisoft's title gained so much attention not only because it promised to be a lovely-looking open world game, but also because it was also the first taste of the future.

Consequently, when visuals were downgraded, it didn't only indicate that the game itself wouldn't be as ambitious or impressive as originally envisioned, but that the entire generation would perhaps suffer the same fate.

Despite causing huge controversy, it didn't stop Ubi from getting embroiled in more visual downgrade scandals, particularly with The Division. They've since tried their best to be as honest as possible and line up pre-release footage more accurately with the final build, but even now stumble occasionally.
