10 Times Star Trek Appeared In Other Video Games
1. World Of Warcraft
The various teleporter operators in World of Warcraft have names that are based on Star Trek's famous engineers. First, there is Scooty. Scooty is obviously based on Scotty, who defined for generations what it was to both keep the Warp Drive running, the shields up, and the ship from shaking apart. He is so recognizable that one barely needs to ask if they are giving him a nod or not.
The next is a reference to the Next Generation's Chief Engineer, Geordi LaForge. In this case, the NPC is Jhordi Lapforge. It is unclear if the character in the game can do a barrel roll as effectively as Levar Burton can while those blast doors quickly slide down in main Engineering.
Another nod is to Smiles O'Byron. This is clearly a nod to two separate characters from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Chief Miles O'Brien is the chief of operations on the station, fighting a seemingly endless battle against the failing Cardassian tech around him. Smiley O'Brien is his mirror universe counterpart, rising from a broken Terran slave to become one of the leaders of the new rebellion.
Nods like this are deep cuts in the Star Trek franchise, fun for those who spot them without being too on the nose for others. Well, alright, Scooty might be a BIT on the nose!
