10 Video Game Fights Developers Didn’t Want You To Win

8. The Hag - Darkest Dungeon

Yiazmat Final Fantasy
Red Hook Studios

In terms of the toughest bosses in Darkest Dungeon, the Hag isn't anywhere near to the toughest of the lot. In fact, you can actually fight her quite early in the game - although, since many bosses repeat, this won't be the only time you see her wrinkled maw.

And yet, if you go in blind, you will almost definitely lose a party member to the hag. This is because she has a special move where one of your team will be scooped into her mighty cauldron, where they begin to be cooked alive for her stew. Fail to save said party member before their health runs out and they'll die in the pot, cooked alive by your strategic failure.

The messed up thing is that the Hag can place a new party member in the pot whenever the old one either dies or is removed from the pot. And you can't run if you realise you aren't ready for the fight either - as if you do, whoever is in the cauldron will be left behind. Hope you don't feel too guilty about making one of your favourite members a tasty stew, because you'll likely have to sacrifice someone down the road.
