10 Video Game Franchises Where Nobody Played The Original
9. Duke Nukem
While it wasn’t the landmark Doom was, Duke Nukem 3D left a big impact on the FPS genre. The level of interactivity Duke had with the environment, combined with the creative weapons and cheesy one-liners, made sure the game had a spot in gaming history.
Duke Nukem 3D was so big. most gamers think the series launched with the title, and don’t realise the 3D bit also means it was the third game. The original Duke was a colourful side-scrolling shooter for PC, where Duke had to stop a mad doctor taking over the world. It wasn’t a very sophisticated game, but it was fun for what it was.
The later success of Duke 3D put the first two games in the shade, and the series would briefly flourish before Duke Nukem Forever took a bloody long time to come out, and profoundly failed to be worth the wait.
