10 Video Game Hoaxes That Completely Fooled Everyone

2. Final Fantasy VII - PS3 Remake

Most of the hoaxes on this list were purposeful; the act of a mischievous gamer or a hilarious publication (looking at you EGM), but here€™s one that was spawned by an innocent tech demo and an internet community that specialises in molehill-to-mountain conversions. At the 2005 Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3), Square Enix unveiled the remade intro to Final Fantasy VII made using the full capability of the PS3. This was never unveiled as a game in-progress though, just a tech demo, however, we made it a hoax. Check the video out below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjmcORTuWGc Looks beyond amazing, right? Later, a message showed up in the ending credits to Final Fantasy: Advent Children thanking the Final Fantasy VII PS3 Team too. Afterwards, a million geeks (note: may be exaggerated) hit their keyboards and started searching. When the FFVII PS3 Tech Demo surfaced, the connection was made: Square were working on a PS3 remake of arguably their most successful game. Unfortunately, it was later revealed that the message in FFVII: Advent Children had addressed the team was working on the PSN port of the game, not a remake, although it would take Square Enix until E3 2015 to finally deliver on a full FF VII remake.
