10 Video Game Hoaxes That Completely Fooled Everyone

4. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - The Sasquatch

One of the biggest and most believable hoaxes ever to involve a GTA title was the apparent appearance of Bigfoot in San Andreas. I€™m uncertain where exactly this hoax first originated, but suffice to say it captured enough hearts and minds to warrant dismissal in an interview for EGM with Rockstar co-founder Terry Donovan who stated €œthere is no Bigfoot , just like in real life€. Basically, this mysterious San Andreas hoax indicated that if players scoured Back O Beyond or Mt. Chilliad during the night there was a small chance that they€™d discover the Sasquatch. So that they did; for months, players searched and searched before finally giving up and arguing that it must be a hoax. And it totally was! Despite the fact that a mod was created years later that wrote the legendary creature into the game, there was never any evidence to support the idea of its original conclusion. But hey, Rockstar have a sense of humour at least. Years later in both the DLC for Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare and a side mission in GTA V, you'll find yourself hunting down multiple Sasquatchs - GTA's one in particular having a hilarious endpoint if you see it all through. God, I love Rockstar.
