10 Video Game Items Everyone Hoards (But Never Uses)
8. Gold - Sea Of Thieves
Gold! Shiny trinkets! The dream of every scallywagging landlubber buccaneer across the seven seas! Including the ones in the Sea of Thieves!
As a not-quite-accurate pirate’s life simulator, Sea of Thieves is all about collecting treasure. You complete missions with your crew for a reward in gold, you search remote islands for chestloads of it, and, most importantly, you take it the pirate’s way by raiding other players’ ships.
With so many of your activities in the game revolving around hoarding shiny coins, you’d think it was of some great value to the players. However, aside from buying some cosmetics with it every now and then, the only thing gold is good for is hiding it where x marks the spot and accidentally throwing it overboard.
So then why do all Sea of Thieves players collect so much of it? Well, because the real value of gold is in acquiring it. It’s the sense of adventure that overloads your coffers, not some desire to buy things.
After all, have you ever seen a pirate make sound investments with their plunder? Well, to be honest, they didn’t really have any means of investing back then, but the point still stands!
