While the original Mass Effect trilogy had its share of flaws, BioWare had nevertheless triumphed in crafting an incredible sci-fi tale founded upon meaningful character relationships and rich world-building. And though this marked the end of Shepherd’s saga, fans were nevertheless excited to jump back into the Mass Effect universe when Andromeda was announced.

Unfortunately, this game failed to live up to the expectations set by original trilogy – and this was due to a lot more than a fistful of bizarre bugs and weird animation issues that were prevalent at launch.

Andromeda is simply too overstuffed with content for its own good. Though there are a handful of standout moments to be found here which come close to recapturing the magic of its predecessors, they're quickly lost within a sea of mundane content which bombards the player a few hours into the campaign.

It’s not only that there’s too much to do here, though. Andromeda makes a point of forcing players to run back and forth between within vast, empty biomes to complete variations of the same uninspired side quests. And then there's the monotonous grind of mining resources to improve gear.

The motivation to explore a new galaxy just isn't there.
