10 Video Games That Overstayed Their Welcome
8. Batman: Arkham Knight
With Batman: Arkham Knight developers Rocksteady crafted a slick and exhilarating outing which put players in the cowl of the world’s greatest detective. The mixture of combat, stealth, and investigation contained within a singular location made for an absolute blast.
It was inevitable the series would be continued, with Arkham City and Origins each expanding on the gameplay in interesting ways.
However, bigger doesn’t always mean better.
Touted to be Batman’s greatest adventure yet, the game took place within a sprawling Gotham City. And to make getting around easier, the game made the Batmobile one of the main mechanics.
Though speeding down the streets is initially a thrilling addition, the novelty quickly runs thin simply because of how overused the Batmobile is.
A sizeable chunk of of the game is spent in lengthy, slow-paced fights against waves of tanks that never develop in complexity. Coupled with the assortment of times the car is needed in puzzles and uninspired chase sequences, and it's not a surprise that gliding is the preferred way to traverse Gotham.
And this isn’t even mentioning the predictable final act.
