10 Video Games That Overstayed Their Welcome
7. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
If it’s a larger-than-life action game you’re looking for, then look no further than the Uncharted series. Protagonist Nathan Drake’s globe-trotting expeditions capture the same spirit of adventure and discovery as Indiana Jones and Lara Croft, all of which is grounded with the relationships between the cast of lovable characters.
When A Thief’s End was marketed as the last chapter in Drake’s epic treasure-hunting career, fans were expecting their hero to go out in a glorious bang (though his ending proved to be a touching conclusion).
And while A Thief’s End certainly had everything fans were hoping for: spectacular set-pieces, adrenaline-fuelled combat and creative puzzles, and a character-driven story focused on family, Drake’s final outing was far from perfect.
The biggest disappointment came in the form of a lacklustre third act. When Drake and his companions’ quest leads them to the jungles of Madagascar, the pacing is ground to a an almost complete halt thanks to lacklustre enemy encounters and overused mechanics. Rather than searching for pirate gold, this section felt more like going through the motions to pad out the runtime.
Despite an underwhelming final boss, however, the game nevertheless managed to stick the landing.
