10 Ways Far Cry 5 Will Save The Franchise
1. Open-World Exploration Is Inspired By Skyrim
Unlike most Ubisoft open world games, the devs of Far Cry 5 are allegedly taking inspiration from RPGs like Skyrim and The Witcher, and instead of bombarding players with exposition, story beats and waypoint markers, will drop them into the world knowing very little.
The idea is that no two people should make their way through the game the same, with the main story unfolding in multiple different ways depending on who you do and don't bump into along the way. It's the "go anywhere" approach that people love so much about Bethesda's games, and is a huge departure from the regular structure of Ubi's sandboxes.
What Far Cry 3 did so well was trapping players in a place they were forced to familiarise themselves with if they wanted a chance at surviving, and this latest sequel is going to great lengths to reignite that same feeling. It won't be entirely open-ended, and there are obviously major beats players will have to hit, but everyone should experience a radically different journey before they arrive at the same destination.
