10 Ways Far Cry 5 Will Save The Franchise
3. You Can Create A Protagonist You Actually Care About
Although the stories of Far Cry games range from interesting surreal power fantasies to straight-up schlocky nonsense, the protagonists of each one have been uniformly uninteresting. Jason Brody being transformed from a socialite into a murderer in the third game was memorable, but the title never did anything interesting with the concept, while the protagonist of the fourth game, well... can you even remember his name?
Thankfully, perhaps because these characters have essentially only ever been a stand-in for the players anyway, Far Cry 5 is finally doing away with putting you in the shoes of someone specific and instead allowing players to create their own heroic crusader.
Casting you as a Junior Sheriff, you can personalise your character before you jump into the game proper, and while it won't radically change their personality, the customisation, combined with no doubt a few key moral choices, will go a long way in creating a protagonist you actually care about.
Likewise, building on the homestead idea present in the fourth game, as you progress through the sequel you'll be able to upgrade and expand a home base for your character, adding in another layer of personality and player choice.
