10 Ways To Make Sure The Call Of Duty Movie Doesn't Suck

7. Learn From The Failures Of Past Videogame Movies

This one can€™t be emphasised enough. There is no single genre of movie €“ outside of maybe movie parodies €“ that are as despised as the videogame adaptation. This is understandable as films like Super Mario Bros., Street Fighter, Doom, Silent Hill: Revelation and House Of The Dead are considered some of the worst films ever made. Even the successful ones like Resident Evil tend to get poor critical notices. There are many reasons they turn out this way. Maybe the director or the writer aren€™t fans of the games and fail to understand what makes them work. Maybe the studio just wants to use the title to lure fans into a sub-par action movie that bears little relation to the games. Or they try to adapt the gaming experience into a movie and fail miserably. Upcoming movie titles like Warcraft or Assassin€™s Creed may help change that perception, but until then the only lesson Activision can take from past examples is what not to do. And there€™s so much to learn.
