11 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Final Fantasy XV

10. All Four Heroes' Names Have Double-Meanings

As we'll get into, Square Enix had a ton of time to perfect every last part of FF XV, starting with the characters' names themselves.

Now, you'll only control Noctis, but there are three more main characters that are constantly onscreen, too. Gladiolous, the strong-willed bodyguard, Prompto, the energetic, happy-go-lucky type with a penchant for selfies and photography, and Ignis, childhood friend of Noctis, chef, and most wise of the bunch.

Their names though, when translated from Latin, mean various things:

Noctis Lucis Caelum - "Sky of the night's light"/"Light of the night sky". If we take this 'light' to be a star, then Noct's perspective bride Luna (Latin for 'moon') pairs up pretty nicely.

Ignis Stupeo Scientia - "Be stunned or amazed by the knowledge's fire"/"Fire of knowledge". As the core thinker behind the group's decisions and Noct's personal advisor, it fits that Ignis' name is literally a label for information itself.

Gladiolus Amicitia - "Little sword of friendship". A far more subtle translation given the gladiatorial connotations associated with his forename, Gladiolus' full name deepens his connection to Noctis and the player, alongside highlighting his main use as 'the muscle' of the group.

Prompto Argentum - "Quicksilver". A deceptively simple name, as whilst Quicksilvers have been in Final Fantasy lore before as pistols (Quicksilver was the name of Vincent's firearm in FF VII), a more apt comparison comes from Final Fantasy Type-0, the 2011 release, where they were wielded by a character called King.

So, a 'King's weapon', as it were. And Noctis is already in line to take the throne with Prompto as his right-hand man? Click.
