9. Calling In The Cavalry - Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
It's hard to write about Assassin's Creed positively these days - such a royal stinker did Ubisoft make of Unity that they'll be
pulling it back for years to come - but back when the
Ezio trilogy was in full force, the middle-chapter of that is easily the culmination of everything AC is about. From brilliantly-choreographed melee combat to an interesting historical locale, loveable characters and a future element that (until the end at least) was immensely satisfying to watch unfurl. A new gameplay mechanic that took centre stage was the ability to cultivate and send out your own team of assassins, giving you the option to balance who you'd send across the world on separate missions and who you'd retain to 'summon' into the field. Nothing was better than watching a guard outpost from above, marking a target and then raising your hand up like some death-knell ringing Don of Badassery only for your hidden warriors to descend from the heavens, run out from between a crowd or a hidden path below, dispatching the threat in a blur of hidden blades and muffled screams.
