20 Best Video Games Of 2018 (So Far)
10. Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
Level-5 continue to be the studio everyone wishes Square Enix could be again - though Octopath Traveller is certainly going to see a return to the late 90s RPG style many including myself have missed since something like Lost Odyssey.
In Revenant Kingdom's case, it's actually a far breezier, enjoyable time than other RPGs whose bosses will mash your characters into a fine paste if you haven't spent enough time grinding beforehand. This approach spreads across the entire game, telling the tale of young King Evan Tildrum and his quest to establish a new kingdom open to all colours and creeds, after being kicked out of his own.
Graphics as you can see are superb, once again channeling Studio Ghibli thanks to a number of their team working on the project, yet expanding into a cel-shaded look that's more in-line with anime overall.
Combat is snappier, combining melee flurries with targeted blast buffs, and every single second of it could be a wall-hanging piece of art.
Ni No Kuni II is easily one of the best games Level-5 have made, potentially topping the mighty Dragon Quest VIII. It's that damn good.
