20 Best Video Games Of 2018 (So Far)
20. Sea Of Thieves
So much potential, so barely executed on.
Let's steer clear of the negatives for now though, as Rare's first in-house developed game in years is - when everything's lining up - a truly magical pirate sim. Snatching up a matchlock pistol and taking a gander across a map, pinpointing potential treasure locations only to battle skeletons and dig up chests with your shovel - it's pure Pirates of the Caribbean-style genre ephemera, done with Pixarian charm.
Sadly, Sea of Thieves doesn't get past that first impression or opening few hours, as between basic battle mechanics and bizarrely repetitive quest design, there just isn't much else going on.
You quickly realise it's all bark and no bite; all charm and no substance - a mixture that has endeared a solid amount of players to grind through what is there, and there's more DLC on the horizon, but this can't reach higher than no.20 for being so weirdly threadbare.
