When a video game tie-in is released for a film, it's instinctual to feel a little nervous. While some titles take a successful movie and elevate it to new heights on a game system — Spider-Man 2, for example — others don't quite rise to the occasion.

X-Men: The Official Game was released in 2006 to act as a storyline bridge between X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand. On the plus side, actors like Hugh Jackman, Alan Cumming, and Shawn Ashmore lent their voices to their playable characters and the plot was interesting enough to warrant its development.

However, the downsides to this game are a little more glaring. After a few levels of bouncing back and forth between characters, the game begins to lose its speed, potential, and enjoyment. An explanation for Nightcrawler's absence is interesting, but the hours spent playing the game for small tidbits of canon would have been put to better use crafting a novelisation instead.
