5 Wild Directions The Call Of Duty Series Could (Theoretically) Take

1. Procedurally Generated Rhythm Shooter

If you think about it, this franchise is absolutely perfect for an idea like this. We are talking about one of the most ridiculously unrealistic shooters that humanity has ever created, so we should take this game's single player portion and spice it up even more: Beat Hazard/Audiosurf style. Imagine this - you start up a song and the level starts loading, you pick your load-out and some basic stuff and then you're thrown into a world created solely to be completely ravaged and shot at for the duration of that song. Depending on the riffs and stuff like that, different enemies would spawn and the environments would switch around. With all that pompous Next-Gen processing power, this might even be viable in some form. The most important thing would be that the player is able to follow the rhythm given by the song. With this kind of software, the most awesome gameplay videos could be created. Also: the series could never again be accused of having a lame/short single-player campaign. Because the premise would obviously be as ludicrous as it could possibly get, some new and fascinating gameplay elements could be brought in. Mutators, if you will. Something like low gravity, no buildings, melee only, handgun only, zombies mode... and, since it would have such a wildly personalised engine, why not enable mods, or any other form of user input, too? Of course, all of these are just wild predicaments and theorising, but some of these entries wouldn't be all that hard to do. In the end, we're talking about the game industry. If there's anything that isn't possible to do in one form or another, we are definitely doing it wrong. Agree or disagree? Let me know in the comments section.
