7 Ways PES 2018 Is Better Than FIFA 18

5. Tactics Are Important

Running in step with this difficulty spike is the tactics engine, one that's far more intuitive than FIFA's 'counter attack when 1-0 up' and 'park the bus against bigger teams' way of doing things. This is the Pep Guardiola of micro-management, should you want to play the game that way. If not, well, you can still have fun.

The biggest successes can be found when understanding that tactical changes impact on how your team plays from half-to-half. It's entirely possible to be 2-0 down at half time, find a system that will exploit an opponent's weakness and draw level within 15 minutes. That's real football, and a million miles away from scripting (more on that later).

PES 2018 rewards your ideas and a logical approach. See that the opposition's left back is susceptible to long through balls but have a lumbering striker on the pitch? Switch them out for a speedster and you just might get in behind a little easier.

This is the kind of experimentation football tacticians demand, and makes PES closer to Football Manager on consoles than FIFA could ever hope to be.
