6. Down: Losing The Assassin's Creed Feel

Assassins Creed Valhalla

It was always a danger with the Viking era selected that the latest instalment may lose its identity as an Assassin's game. Unfortunately, Valhalla did not deliver on this point, so it's getting a down.

Stealth has been rendered almost obsolete in the game because it is easier to initiate all-out attacks on enemy strongholds, rather than stealthily take them down. The raven has become useless as the character relies heavily upon Odin’s vision. It is difficult to plan a stealthy takedown of an area, so players take the easy option of engaging in open combat.

It is a shame, as one of the highlights of previous games was conquering an enemy stronghold by taking out their captains and stealing their loot, all whilst being undetected.

The great strides made in the combat parts of the game, have hindered the use of stealth. If it was a standard Viking game that would be fine but as it's Assassin's Creed, you need to perfect the stealth element.
