Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs

1. Incredible Sound Design

Sound design is always ultra important for the FPS genre, and Modern Warfare offers up quite arguably the strongest that the series has ever seen.

Playing the game with a good set of headphones is a transformative experience when compared to tinny TV speakers: Infinity Ward has clearly taken major pains to create as immersive and realistic a soundscape as possible.

Bullets make different sounds depending on circumstance, and with their unique layering sound far more authentic than a simple stock gunshot sound effect.

Quite how it measures up to the Battlefield games will be up for debate - that series has historically dunked on CoD in this department - yet on its own merits, Modern Warfare offers a major aural step up from the last few games in the series.

That rigorous commitment to "realism" evidently isn't purely marketing spiel.
