Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Review - 6 Ups & 5 Downs
1. The Stunning Sound Design
In the ultra-competitive world of AAA online FPS games, sound design is hugely important, and while the Battlefield franchise has typically bettered Call of Duty in this department, this year Modern Warfare takes a huge leap forward.
Find yourself a great pair of headphones and this is perhaps the most sonically immersive game in the series yet: gunfire sounds absolutely thunderous and responds appropriately according to the environment, while explosions are deafening.
Though already proving controversial with many fans, footsteps have been given a massive boost in the sound mix this year, ensuring that those wearing surround sound headphones have a distinct advantage when it comes to tracking down the enemy - even if this arguably encourages camping.
While it'll be up for debate how Modern Warfare's aural suite compares to Battlefield, it's brilliantly crafted on its own merits and compliments the sharp visuals exceptionally well.
