Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Review - 6 Ups & 5 Downs

6. The Campaign Is The Series' Best In Years
If Call of Duty's campaigns have been either generic, silly or even non-existent for quite some time now, Modern Warfare's story mode is a breath of fresh air, delivering a more dynamic and memorable sortie closer in quality to the series' earlier outings.
Though clocking in at only around five hours in length, the campaign is uncommonly serious, thoughtful and well-acted for the franchise, juggling its various ethical quandaries with a greater sense of perspective and ambiguity.
The usual self-consciously shocking moments are there, for sure, but the character of rebel leader Farah Karim lends a human face to the usual flippant carnage on offer, and the new game engine ensures it looks more slickly cinematic than ever before.
Much like the original Modern Warfare's campaign, there's a welcome focus on variety and dynamic gameplay: across the story mode, you'll have night-vision shootouts, fly RC planes and even take part in a terrifyingly tense, Resident Evil 7-esque stalker segment.
While hardly a game-changer for the series, Modern Warfare's campaign is a major return to form after years either experimenting or resting on its laurels, with just enough fan service to reward loyal fans.
