Doctor Who: 10 Things The 2021 Video Game NEEDS To Be Great

3. Let Us Play As EVERY Doctor...

Regeneration has allowed Doctor Who to last for almost six decades: the lead character changes their face every couple of years, allowing for infinite longevity. So it's quite frustrating that most Doctor Who games force you to play as a single Doctor.

This is quite a strange move when you think about it, because every fan has their own favourite Doctor. The older generations might prefer Tom Baker and Peter Davison, younger crowds will gravitate more towards David Tennant and Matt Smith, and future generations will fall in love with future Doctors. Whovians love their Doctor, so why would a game restrict itself by making people play as an incarnation they may not like?

So Maze Theory, listen up: want to get the entire Doctor Who fanbase onboard with this game? Then let us play as every Doctor. Even if the rest of the game is naff, allowing a die-hard McCoy or Eccleston fan to play as their personal favourite would almost be a dream come true - even if it's just swapping out character skins.

Hell, remember that episodic structure we mentioned earlier? Why not centre each level around a different Doctor, then have the finale be a multi-Doctor team-up?

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
