Far Cry 5 Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

6. Co-Op Makes Everything More Fun

It's true. Getting together with a friend to blow stuff up really is more fun than doing it on your own. Although a solid single-player adventure in its own right, Far Cry 5 is so much more fun with a friend.

Teaming up online to take over Hope County changes Far Cry 5 from a thoughtful adventure into a chaotic explosion-fest. And yes, that is a good thing.

One of the most notable examples of how coop improves the Far Cry experience is through all of the optional content. Things like outposts, side missions and simply exploring the map are all made much less mundane when you have someone alongside you getting into as much trouble as you are.

The fact that even story missions are playable in coop now is what makes the mode so appealing. Far Cry 4 felt like the coop play was just there to mess around with, but here it feels like an essential part of the Far Cry 5 experience. As long as it isn't shoved in, cooperative play definitely has a place in the Far Cry games.
