Far Cry: Every Game Ranked Worst To Best

3. Far Cry

Although the first couple of games suffered a touch from being in the shadow of what Crytek built, it was actually only this initial release the developers had a hand in creating. Fortunately, the groundwork they laid was phenomenal, and Far Cry was graphical, technical and gameplay showcase on PC. This had the knock-on effect of console editions being absolutely terrible, but at least they were accessible to those who couldn't afford a ridiculously expensive rig.

The beauty of the world facilitated a sense of immersion that was backed by slower, more demanding gameplay. More linear than the following releases, this original Far Cry was still more open than the competition at the time, encouraging players to pick routes through areas and take out enemies in the most efficient way possible.

It was admittedly bloody difficult at times too, which makes it feel a little dated now, but even then it's immediately apparent why Ubisoft decided to stick with the franchise after this first outing to build upon Crytek's sturdy foundations.
