Final Fantasy VII Remake: 10 Things Everybody Missed In The New Trailer

6. This Soldier's Reaction To Cloud

In amongst all the quick-cutting of Cloud's pre-escape train fight, we get a quick shot of him looking at a specific soldier in amongst the crowd of attackers, and it's one that triggers a flashback/mind control scene, of sorts.
The 1997 version of FF VII did occasionally hint at that twist (which if you don't know, all the power to you) by including random lines of dialogue from inside his mind, but for this remake it appears Square are creating a stronger link between Cloud and his former unit. Or, this is a specific new/reworked character that we're yet to see in full, although that's far less likely. As I already mentioned the idea of a different introductory scene, note that after Cloud buckles and sprints away, he doesn't hop on the train immediately, instead partaking in a fight scene. In the footage available, Barrett pops up to help, but only Cloud is shown leaving to catch the train. It's likely Barrett was thrown in to demonstrate the new combat engine and fire off a few special attacks, whilst the full game will only have Cloud tackling the mass of soldiers. The only question is... could this actually be the start of the game, showing Cloud deserting his unit and then joining up with AVALANCHE?
