Final Fantasy XV: 10 Major Risks That Could Go Either Way

9. Open-World Elements

From what we€™ve seen so far and played in the demo episode, FFXV has a HUGE map to explore. Apparently Square Enix have taken fans complaints about XXIII€™s linearity to heart, and have brought back the overworld of classic entries. However, it needs to be noted that a lot about game design, especially open-world game design, has changed since the PS1 era. The overworlds of FF VII, VIII and IX were basically just the connective tissue between the game's various cities and dungeons. There were secrets to find and monsters to encounter, but nothing that resembled the side quest-filled, 3D landscapes we€™ve become accustomed to. Last year we were spoiled by The Witcher 3, which showed that you can have a massive open world without resorting to Ubisoft-style busywork. Hopefully, FFXV can give an interesting world to explore filled with interesting stories and characters, instead of pointless filler for the sake of it.
