Final Fantasy XV: 10 Major Risks That Could Go Either Way

3. Luna

Since the game started it€™s life as Versus XIII, main character Noctis has been set to have a female rival/love interest. Originally, she was called Stella and had the same power-set as Noctis, but despite caring about him and being compelled to fight him by the gods, didn't actually want to. Now, after revising the story to be a one and done narrative, the character has taken the form of Luna, an oracle princess who is also Noctis€™ childhood friend and fiancé.Though her exact role in the story is un-clear at this point, the trailers and interviews by the games director have indicated that she€™s one of the game€™s most important characters. I have two main concerns about this: Firstly, can her role feel cohesive with the rest of the story after being so heavily rewritten? Secondly, and most importantly, can the game manage to make us care about a character and their romance with the protagonist when they€™re not a party member? Writing a compelling romance is hard enough, without one half of it being off screen most of the time. This is why no one really cares about Sora and Kairi€™s romance in Kingdom Hearts. Kairi has had twenty minutes on screen over the course of seven games. Hopefully the writers will manage to balance this and make Luna a compelling, dynamic character. Who knows, maybe she'll end up in the party temporarily.
