Is Madden 23 a great game? No, and the number of 'Downs' compared to 'Ups' illustrates that. Regardless, this year's on-field improvements do mean it's the best version of Madden you can currently get on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Sure, that should be tempered by the fact it's largely the same game as Madden 22, but yes.

Put it this way: Lapsed fans who haven't picked up one of these titles for years could be pleasantly surprised by the gameplay adjustments. Going back to that old passing system is also tough once you've sampled how intuitive skill-based throws are here. Toss an interception and it's on you, buddy!

Expecting complete rebuilds from annual sports franchises is probs rather silly. That means Madden 22's returning crowd will scoff at the relatively tiny changes. By comparison, somebody who hasn't bought one of these games for five years may find a lot to like.
