Ranking Every Final Fantasy Composer
26. Masahiko Satoh
Works: Legend Of The Crystals
One of the most obscure entries in the Final Fantasy pantheon is Legend Of The Crystals, an anime sequel to V. Only available on VHS in Japan and North America in limited quantities, its soundtrack was released only in Japan and is difficult to find even on the internet, let alone physically.
With 53 tracks in total, it was hugely excessive for an animation that only lasts a couple of hours in total. Many of the themes were rehashes of each other, particularly variants on ‘Elemental Travel’, which bore overly cheery Japanese vocals.
There were a few arrangements of tracks from V, such as ‘Return To Tycoon’, but given that V wasn’t a high point for the series from a musical standpoint (Clash On The Big Bridge aside), that’s hardly a selling point.
The full selection
was put together by Masahiko Satoh, a Japanese musician with no other ties to
the series. Known for his jazz music, he hasn’t worked on many projects since
the anime’s mid-'90s release and is doubtlessly done with the franchise given
the gap between its release and now.
