Resident Evil 8 Village Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs
Downs
2. RE8 Village Is Not A Hard Game
Now, this might come from decades of experience with the series, but more so than ever, Village didn’t feel especially challenging to overcome. Some of the earlier combat sections are overwhelming and heart-pounding, but after a while, you will be rolling in ammo, healing items and money.
All any player has to do is check out a few houses or stray rooms, and they will be sorted until certain sequences when the game really ramps up. The Lycans will be the enemies that the player encounters the most throughout their time in Village, and it really does feel like there are simply just a few (which isn’t really a challenge), or an overwhelming horde that once overcome, most will have to take a break.
Then there are the larger enemies that can really come across roadblocks later in the game, if the player chooses to retread areas for treasure and loot missed. The problem with this is they won’t be able to fit through doorways, and can simply be cheesed until they are put down. This isn’t a noble strategy, but if the game lets you break it like this, it’s all fair.
Now, this down might only impact seasoned players, but for those going in wanting more of a challenge, they should jump in on Hardcore the first time through.
