Super Mario: 10 AMAZING Features That Only Appeared Once
5. Bunny Showdowns - Super Mario Land 2
Nintendo's fascination with putting various fruits and vegetables into Mario games first began with Super Mario Bros. 2, which featured the Italian Plumber and his friends running around and pulling up turnips, mushrooms and cherries.
This would continue into the highly-underrated Mario Land series for the GameBoy and the introduction of carrots and the Bunny Mario power up. The first and only appearance of this power up came in the series' second game, 6 Golden Coins, and gifts users with two floppy ears that sprout out of their heads.
Whilst in Bunny form, the user can slow their descent during a fall by flapping their ears, as well as traverse quickly across a level by hopping around. It's a solid enough item, but 6 Golden Coins also has one other amazing feature with these Bunny ears.
If there's one thing modern 2D Mario games lack, it's creative boss battles. In 6 Golden Coins, Mario and Wario square off with their Bunny power ups in the game's final showdown. With both figures sharing the same power ups and abilities, it makes for a far more interesting boss battle than just facing off against the Koopalings and Bowser again and again.
