Super Mario Odyssey: Ranking All 8 Revealed Kingdoms So Far

4. New Donk City - Metro Kingdom

Super Mario Odyssey
Nintendo

New Donk City is an excellent name for a world. With that out of the way, the actual city itself looks like a brilliant virtual playground for Mario to jump and flip about in. The city has a lot of personality, some of which is owed to Pauline's jazzy theme song. Speaking of which, Pauline makes her first appearance in a 3D Mario game as the mayor of New Donk, which is one of the game's best homages to the Mario of yesteryear.

Taking control of yellow taxis is ... weird, but bouncing off their bonnets and then swinging from a nearby lamppost is an undeniably cool use of the world, and a fantastic example of the level of fluid platforming on offer here. In fact, it's not hard to see why New Donk City has been so prevalent in Super Mario Odyssey's marketing. It's immediately attention-grabbing and clearly stands out from the rest of the game worlds. Plus Mario's occupation of human bodies has inspired some hilariously twisted scenarios.
