WWE 2K24 Review: 9 Ups & 4 Downs

3. The Downsides To Showcase

Disclaimer: Showcase Mode is a lot of fun and well-worth experiencing. The following two 'Downs' aren't designed to lambast it, but instead add balance by pointing out some minor niggles.

2K's heralded 'Slingshot Tech' is an impressive bit of kit. It splices in-game with real-life footage from the archives, and the whole thing works seamlessly. However, it is worth saying that the archival match footage does tend to take over a little too often during some matches in this year's '40 Years Of WrestleMania' retrospective.

As a result, you'll see moments during matches like Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant or Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior and think, 'Hey! I should be playing that bit!'. That's not a mode-breaking problem, but it is well worth bringing up as a whispered warning before you get stuck in.

It's also a bit crap that modern day ring announcers like Mike Rome make match-winning calls on classic bouts. It would've been lovely to have iconic refrains from voices like Howard Finkel instead. That's a puzzling choice, and feels a little cheap considering the historical purpose of Showcase.
